If your hair is getting grey or white and if you worry to apply commercially available hair color which contains harmful chemicals. I know some ayurvedic herbs that darken hair and improves overall hair quality.

Hair gives beauty to our body and also protects our head. When a person losses hair or hair becomes grey it becomes a concern of embarrassment. Everyone wants to be young and also wants to look young. But your grey or white hair can present you as old. If hair becomes grey at a very young age say at 20 or 25 years of age. It can give a bad impression to your partner and in society.

Dark hair especially in Asian countries is a sign of beauty. Those who have dark hair are considered beautiful and get higher status in some cases though it is not correct all the time(a psychological effect in people’s minds).

If you have this grey hair problem and want to use a natural way of darkening hair. You can get great success with ayurvedic herbs that darken hair. Before going to details about all the ayurvedic herbs, first, let me explain the reasons for immature grey hair.

Why is your hair getting grey even though you are young?

It is natural to hair become grey as age advances. But, nowadays we see hair become grey at a very young age because of the following reasons:-

  1. Increased Pollution in the air, water
  2. Chemicals in food
  3. Tension
  4. High dose medicine intake etc.
  5. Sedentary lifestyle

List of Ayurvedic herbs that darken hair

1.Amla

Amla, the scientific name is Emblica officinalis is rich in nutrients like vitamins, minerals, amino acids. Rich in antioxidants this amla improves the scalp health. Amla reduces hair fall, increases the luster, and darkens hair.

You can grind 10 to 12 fresh amla and apply on hair. A paste of fresh ground Amla is very effective in the darkening of hair.

2.Haritaki

Amla and Haritaki have been used in India for ages for curing many digestive related ailments. Both herbs have great nutrients and minerals good for both body and hair. Haritaki’s scientific name is Terminalia chebula.

Take 100 mg of Haritaki powder and mix with 100 mg of powder of each Bhringaraj and Amla and then add coconut or almond oil. This paste can be applied to remain the natural black color of the hair. Keep in mind not to wash with shampoo or soap after application.

3. Bhringaraj

Bhringaraj is known as an excellent herb for hair. Bhringaraj oil can be applied to hair for hair growth and to prevent the graying of hair. Its botanical name is Eclipta alba, which grows well in the wet region. Single Bhringaraj powder is rarely used, its powder is mixed with powder of Amla Haritaki, Brahmi, or Jatamanshi for better results.

4.Jatamanshi

Jatamanshi is also very good for hair growth and to use to prevent the graying of hair. Its scientific name is Nardostachys Jatamansi, it’s powder can be mixed with other oils like coconut oil, almond oil, avocado oil and can be applied for the result.

5.Palandu(onion)

Palandu or Onion is the commonest kitchen ingredient(vegetable) found in most households. Its scientific name is Allium cepa. Mix 3 tsp of onion juice with 1 tsp of lemon juice and 1 tsp of olive oil. Apply this mixture on your scalp. Onion does not add color to your hair, but it nourishes the hair roots to become strong and grow dark hair.

6.Brahmi

Brahmi is another very useful plant in ayurvedic treatment. Brahmi’s scientific name is Bacopa monnieri. Brahmi grows very well in the wet and tropical environment. Brahmi is a very useful herb for memory boosting. You can apply Brahmi powder as a single herb or mix with amla powder and Bhringaraj power. Mix the ingredients with olive oil and apply on the scalp for the dark hair growth.

7.Neem

Neem is a very beneficial herb in ayurvedic treatment. Its botanical name is Azadirachta indica. A paste of fresh neem leaves mixed with coconut oil can be applied on hair. This improves hair quality and darkens the hair. Neem oil can be extracted and apply directly without mixing. Due to its cold potency(Veerya) very useful for skin problems.
